Christian Kröger

Last updated: 12/07/2019

Christian Kröger like Rabe was a businessman from Hamburg. He moved to China in 1928 and returned to Germany in 1939, one year after Rabe.  Kröger wrote several reports on his time in Nanjing and his travels in China. He was a passionate photographer and took most of the photos that are included in the Rabe Diaries. As treasurer of the Committee, he has also been referred to as Rabe’s right-hand man.  In the 1980s, Kröger was one of the first to call attention to Rabe’s humanitarian activities and to that of the Committee.
